Congratulations—your child is entering college. Just four more years of eating ramen so that you can cover tuition! Lighten the load with some proactive ways to protect your insurance and save money. OUR TIPS DISTANCE DISCOUNTS Let us know if your child is taking a car, moving a long distance away, etc. Some companies give discounts for young drivers who leave their vehicle at home to attend school more than 100 miles away. TAKING A CAR? If your child is taking a car, let them know that they need to be extremely careful about who they let drive. Insurance follows the vehicle. You don’t want to have to pay a claim for a driver that is not your child. Technically, your student is not allowed to loan their car because they are not a “named insured.” BETTER GRADES, BETTER RATES Young drivers do get a discount for good grades. A 3.0 or better can lead to a healthy reduction of your premium. This route does require that you submit a student report card or transcript as verification. THEFT COVERAGE Make sure that we know what they’re taking to college. Some policies restrict property for theft committed away from home. Let’s have the discussion and decide if we need to schedule their laptop or more expensive college staples so they have coverage. ANY QUESTIONS? Give us a call or shoot us an email!
